The Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics Department at SCS Hospital plays a key role in improving the nutritional health and well-being of patients, so as to optimise their clinical management. Application of principles of nutrition for promoting good health forms the core of dietetic practice at our hospital. The Clinical Nutritionists provide care when special dietary considerations are needed due to illness, injury or surgery.
Diet is an important and integral part of curative and prevention health care management. The department is actively involved in the patient care services of the hospital. Special therapeutic diets are planned according to the patient’s clinical conditions. We provide the much needed support to all specialities by assessing, monitoring and optimising the nutritional status of patient’s working in tandem with the hospital cafeteria to serve a well – balanced diet for the in-patients.
Our Clinical Nutritionists works with medical teams from all the specialities to provide specialized, optimal nutritional support to each and every patient assessing their needs; including patients with disorders, severe infections, respiratory disorders and those convalescing after major surgeries/trauma.
They also identify and recommend a customised diet plans, patients with greater nutritional disorders i.e. anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, PEM (Protein-Energy-Malnutrition), extreme obesity and mode to provide the required nutrition (oral/enteral/parental), based on his/her current health condition.
A good diet helps in faster healing. Routine nutritional assessment, evaluation is conducted and personalised diet charts are prepared as per the guidance of the consultants.
