Trauma & Orthopaedics at SCS Hospital

The T&O department at SCS hospital is led by senior consultants with many years of expertise in accident care and surgical/nonsurgical management of bone & joint problems.

The department is well supported by trained staff in a 24 hour Accident & Emergency department and ICU. They have excellent backup from a dedicated emergency OT, laboratory, Xray, Ultrasound and CT scan.

Emergency Trauma Services

Road traffic accidents, elderly osteoporotic fractures, sports and minor injuries

  • RTA – Life & limb saving surgery by senior Orthopaedic surgeons, with input from General surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular surgery and Plastic surgery when required.
  • Elderly fractures – Team approach by Orthopaedic surgeon, Anaesthetist, Geriatric physician, Physiotherapist and Dietician for better intraoperative and postoperative outcome.
  • Sports/ minor injuries – Focus on non-surgical management initially. Surgery only when indicated.

Appointment based Ortho services

Arthritis, Disc prolapse/spondylosis, Adolescent joint problems

  • Assessed and managed by senior orthopaedic surgeon (and physician, if patient is elderly or diabetic).
  • Emphasis on weight reduction, activity modification, home exercise regime, outpatient physio and regular follow ups.
  • Patient optimisation before and after surgery to minimise hospital stay and enable safe discharge.
